The Department of Decorative Arts and Animation is a complex academic subdivision within the Faculty of Decorative Arts and Design. The basis for the creation of the department was the merger of the Department of Ceramics and Artistic Metal Processing (founded in 1984) and the Department of Artistic Tapestry (founded in 1986).
Currently, the structure of the academic department consists of three sections: Animation, Tapestry and Ceramics and Metal.
The educational services offered by the department are organized at two levels of university education:
-Level 6 ISCED – higher education Bachelor's degree (cycle I) for the specialties of Artistic Ceramics, Artistic Metal, Tapestry, Animation
-Level 7 ISCED – higher education Master's degree (cycle II) for the specialties of Textile Art, Ceramic Art, Metal Art
followed subsequently by doctoral studies, at the III cycle.
The subdivision provides training for students in the following study programs:
• 0211.8 Animation (field of professional training Audiovisual techniques and media production) 3 years, 180 ECTS credits
• 0214.1 Tapestry (field of professional training Decorative arts) 4 years, 240 ECTS credits
• 0214.1 Artistic ceramics, Artistic metal (field of professional training Decorative arts) 4 years, 240 ECTS credits
DADA students participate in national and international scientific conferences, discussions, masterclasses and meetings with the participation of national and international guest personalities, Exhibitions of fine and decorative art, various national competitions of fine art and animation, Summer schools, Summer camps, organized abroad. Students are also involved in organizing and promoting the International Decorative Art and Animation Exhibition of the Faculties of Arts ORIZONTURI, which is currently a unique event in the Republic of Moldova.
The department's mission is to train specialists in the field of animation, textile design, fire arts and sculptural art, in an educational climate open to the most current developments in the field, through a diversified and complex theoretical and practical training. The program offers students the opportunity to obtain complex skills, stimulating both specific artistic creativity and the ability to act professionally in the area of creative industries.
The strengths of the study program are the high artistic instruction and the various partnerships with the professional environment that ensure efficiency in familiarizing students with the concrete problems of the field and facilitate rapid insertion into the labor market.
The Department of Decorative Arts and Animation has a teaching staff of high professional training and responsibility, holders of scientific and didactic titles, honorary titles, are members of the UAP of the Republic of Moldova as well as numerous awards and distinctions at national and international exhibitions and festivals.
The department has study workshops for the specialties of sculpture, ceramics, artistic metal processing, artistic tapestry, animation: forging workshop, pottery workshop, methodical funds, modeling room, carpentry workshop, ceramics technology workshop, textile techniques workshop, stop motion and green screen workshop, auxiliary spaces.
The training of specialists in the field of decorative arts began in 1984 at the Applied Decorative Arts Department (within the former State Institute of Arts) under the leadership of Eduard Copaciov and Vlad Bolboceanu. After the reorganization of the State University of Arts in 2002 into the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts, internal restructuring followed, so the Applied Decorative Arts Department was renamed the Department of Artistic Ceramics and Artistic Metal Processing, led by Tudor Hîncu, and since 2012 Elena Frunze has taken over the leadership of the department.
The Sculpture specialization was established at the department in 2004, guided by the sculptor Iurii Canaşin. In this study program, plastic artists such as Ion Zderciuc, Mircea Puşcaş, Dmitrii Beldii, Grigorie Băţ worked as lecturers. Since 2011, the artistic director of the sculpture group is Octavian Romanescu, Master of Arts.
The Tapestry Department was established in 1986, headed by Andrei Negură, based on the country's needs to provide qualified specialists in the field of decorative arts in the textile arts sector. Over the years, the department has been led by Alexandru Șestacovschii, Aliona Cotorobai, Iurie Lupu, Felicia Savițkaia.
In 2006, within the Tapestry Department, in addition to the Artistic Tapestry specialty, a new specialty was opened - Restoration and Conservation of Works of Art.
The internal reorganization of AMTAP in November 2017 merged the Artistic Tapestry Department and the Ceramics and Artistic Metal Processing Department, forming the Department of Decorative Arts and Sculpture with two internal sections: Artistic Ceramics/Artistic Metal and Sculpture and the Artistic Tapestry section. The Department was led by the head of the department Elena Frunze and Felicia Saviţkaia, head of the Tapestry section (from 2017 to 2022), currently the leadership is taken over by Iarîna Saviţkaia-Baraghin, Master of Arts, PhD, associate professor and head of the Artistic Ceramics and Sculpture section, lecturer Elena Frunze.
In 2023, a new specialty opens at the department, namely Animation.
The teaching activity in the department's specialties has been supported over the years by specialists in the field, graduates of prestigious institutions in the Baltic States, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania and the Republic of Moldova, members of creative unions, dedicated to the teaching profession, who have substantially contributed to establishing special traditions and educational principles in the field of higher artistic education, namely in the field of decorative arts, creating a prestigious School with traditions and values cultivated, preserved and continuously valued by generations. Reference specialists were: Vlad Bolboceanu, Andrei Negură, Alexandru Șestacovschi, Iurie Platon, Stela Culev, Ion Chişcă, Elena Rotaru, Mircea Spinei, Tudor Hîncu, Irina Filip Lavrente, Vlad Straticiuc, Elena Mogorean, Ion Zderciuc, Elvira Cemortan Voloșin, Ştefan Pavlov, Mircea Pușcaș, Dmitrii Beldii, Grigorie Băț, Aliona Cotorobai, Stela Burciu, Olga Ilies, etc.
Over 30 generations of graduates have received bachelor's and master's degrees in decorative arts, who have obtained skills to manifest themselves prolifically in national and international art, education and culture.
Graduates of the Department of Decorative Arts and Animation continue their activity successfully in the field of artistic creation. A good part of the graduates have become renowned visual artists in the Republic of Moldova and abroad, teachers in the field of visual and decorative arts, researchers in the field of visual and decorative arts, managers of cultural/creative institutions and centers.
