Fine Arts Department

HISTORY

The Graphic Arts Department was established in 1984 as an integral part of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts within the State Institute of the Arts, pursuant to a decision by the Government of the Moldavian SSR. The initiative for its founding and the department's first professors were prominent figures in the field: Academician Ilie Bogdescu, Master of Arts Valentin Coreachin, Honored Master Alexei Colîbneac, as well as artists Roman Cuțiuba and Victor Ftorov.

The department's structure, curricula, and syllabi were aligned with similar documents from art institutions in Romania, Belarus, Estonia, and Lithuania, and were approved by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova. Over time, the bachelor's program has produced approximately 28 graduating classes of specialists in the visual arts. Notable alumni, recognized both domestically and internationally, include: Vitalie Coroban, Gheorghii Diaconu, Igor Glavan, Violeta Diordiev, Alexandru Ermurache, Luminiţa Ermurache, Violeta Dabija, Corina Cotorobai, Aliona Timuţa, Oxana Diaconu Catan, Dmitrii Şibaev, Eugen Gorean, Catrin Bespaliuc, Ivanca Costru, Cristina Movileanu, Cristina Kaciurovskaia, Iana Vulpe, Olga Ilieş, and others.

Following the Republic of Moldova's accession to the Bologna Process, higher education was reorganized into cycles: Cycle I – Bachelor's (4 years) and Cycle II – Master's (1.5 years). In July 2006, the institution underwent academic accreditation. Based on the resulting order, the bachelor's program in Graphic Arts (code 1602) was accredited. Subsequently, AMTAP obtained authorization to organize master's degree studies in Graphic Arts (90 credits).

In 2020, the 0213.2 Graphic Arts bachelor's program was accredited by ANACEC, and the Graphic Arts study program (90 credits) was launched as a natural continuation of the 0213.2 Graphic Arts bachelor's program. It falls within the general field of study 021 Arts, the professional training field 0213 Fine Arts, and the specialization/program 0213.2 Graphic Arts, with graduates awarded the title of Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Upon graduation, students receive a bachelor's degree and a diploma supplement, qualifying them for employment as: professionals in easel graphics and printmaking; designers in the publishing, industrial, and advertising sectors; illustrators for publishing houses and printing firms; and educators in preschool and pre-university institutions.

Graduates of the program enter fields of major socio-economic relevance, demonstrating a level of training that is competitive in both the Republic of Moldova's labor market and internationally. The Graphic Arts specialization remains a popular choice among students, recognized as a profession offering genuine opportunities for career advancement and sustainable professional development.
