Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts

Presentation of the AMTAP

The Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts of the Republic of Moldova is the successor to the State Conservatory in Chisinau, founded in 1940, and to the musical education institutions that operated in Chisinau starting in 1919, when, at the initiative of G. Enescu, the Unirea Conservatory was established.

Over its history the institution has undergone several name and structural changes. Initially, the Conservatory offered studies only in music. In the late 1950s, the first student groups were formed for the Acting specialty. In 1965, within the State Institute of the Arts (established on the basis of the Conservatory in 1964), the Department of Directing and the Actor’s Art were created, and in 1988 the Faculty of Theatrical Art was formed (today Theatrical Art, Choreography and Multimedia). The Faculty of Fine Arts was founded in 1984. In its current form, the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts was established on the basis of the reorganization of the State University of the Arts (formed by merging the G. Musicescu Music Academy and the Institute of the Arts in 1999) on September 1, 2002.

Today the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts covers all fields of university and post-university artistic education. AMTAP was accredited in July 2006, and in July 2009 and again in 2014 it obtained the scientific accreditation certificate.
