Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts

Faculty of Theatre, Choreography and Multimedia Arts

The Faculty of Performing Arts, Choreography, and Multimedia (FATCM) has its origins in the second half of the 1950s, when groups of students specializing in Theatre and Film acting were formed at the G. Musicescu State Conservatory. In 1965, the Department of Directing and Acting Arts was established at the Institute of Arts, which was formed on the basis of the Conservatory. This department served as the nucleus for the founding, in 1988, of the Faculty of Performing Arts, and in 1999 the faculty was expanded with new specializations and took the name Dramatic Arts and Artistic Management. In 2012, the faculty was renamed the Faculty of Theater, Film, and Dance, and today it is called the Faculty of Performing Arts, Choreography, and Multimedia.

Currently, FATCM trains specialists in all areas of theatrical art, cinematographic art, dance art, and cultural studies. Graduates of the Faculty work in all theaters across the Republic of Moldova, in cultural institutions, film and TV studios as actors, directors, cinematographers, film and TV producers, dramatic authors and screenwriters, theatre scholars, educators, choreographers, ballet masters, theater managers and directors, and leaders of cultural centers.

The Faculty boasts teaching staff of high professional caliber. Among them are actors, directors, choreographers, dramatists, and theatre scholars with renowned names, holders of scientific and honorary titles.

Within FATCM, three departments operate: Theatre Art; Multimedia; and Choreographic Art and Motor Performance, as well as the chairs: Theatre Studies; Artistic Management and Culturology.

Students and professors at FATCM are engaged in a continuous process of creation that is also part of the instructional process; they participate in various national and international festivals and are valued for their high level of professionalism.

Annually, the faculty organizes the International Festival of Theatre and Film Schools ClassFest, an international artistic event, unique in the Republic of Moldova, which promotes young theatre creators, the values of contemporary art, and intercultural dialogue. The artistic director of the festival is Svetlana Târțău, PhD, professor, Emeritus, who served as Dean of FATCM from 2002 to 2022.

The Faculty of Performing Arts, Choreography, and Multimedia undertakes a valuable journey toward internationalization of the study process; beyond the didactic program, students and teaching staff actively participate in various cultural events organized within the academy: the International Festival of Theatre and Film Schools ClassFest, the FATCM Gala of Performances, scientific conferences and methodological seminars, workshops, and meetings with prominent figures in the fields of theatre, choreography, and cinema.
