Faculty of Dramatic Art, Choreography, and Multimedia (FATCM) traces its beginnings to the second half of the 1950s, when, within the G. Musicescu State Conservatory, student groups were formed in the Theater Actor and Cinema specialization. In 1965, the Department of Direction and Acting was established at the Institute of Arts, which was formed on the basis of the Conservatory. This department served as the nucleus for the founding, in 1988, of the Faculty of Dramatic Art, and in 1999 the faculty was expanded with new specializations and renamed to Dramatic Arts and Artistic Management. In 2012, the faculty was renamed the Faculty of Theater, Film, and Dance, and today it is called the Faculty of Dramatic Art, Choreography, and Multimedia.
Currently, FATCM ensures the training of specialists in all fields of dramatic art, cinematic art, choreography, and culturology. The faculty’s graduates work in all theaters of the Republic of Moldova, in cultural institutions, film and TV studios as actors, directors, cinematographers, film and TV producers, playwrights and screenwriters, theater historians, educators, choreographers, ballet masters, theater directors and managers, and cultural house directors.
The faculty boasts a cadre of highly professional teaching staff, including actors, directors, choreographers, dramaturges, and theater historians with renowned names and holders of scientific and honorary titles.
Within FATCM there are three departments: Dramatic Art; Multimedia; Choreographic Art and Motor Performance, and the chairs: Theater Studies; Artistic Management and Culturology.
Students and professors at FATCM are engaged in a continuous creative process that is also an intrinsic part of the educational process; they participate in various national and international festivals and are recognized for their high professionalism.
Annually, the faculty organizes the International Festival of Theater and Film Schools ClassFest, an international artistic event unique in the Republic of Moldova, which promotes young theatre creators, the values of contemporary art, and intercultural dialogue. The artistic director of the festival is Svetlana Târțău, PhD, university professor, Emeritus, who served as the FATCM Dean from 2002 to 2022.
The Faculty of Dramatic Art, Choreography, and Multimedia undertakes a valuable trajectory toward internationalizing the study process; beyond the didactic program, students and teaching staff actively participate in various cultural events organized within the academy: the International Festival of Theater and Film Schools ClassFest, the FATCM Concert Gala, scientific conferences and methodological seminars, workshops, and meetings with prominent figures in the fields of theatrical, choreographic, and cinematic arts.
